Tennis: Marius Copil advances to ATP Bangkok challenger quarterfinals

Romanian tennis player Marius Copil qualified on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the 50,000-dollar Bangkok Challenger after defeating 20-year old Czech Zdenek Kolar (ATP No. 244) 6-4, 6-1.

No. 3 seed Copil secured the victory in one hour and 10 minutes, firing 6 aces and saving both break points he faced.

Marius Copil (26, 132nd ATP) thus earned 1,460 dollars and 15 ATP points.

In the quarterfinals he will play for the first time German Maximilian Marterer (21, No. 176 ATP).

Also on Wednesday Copil will play in the quarterfinals of the doubles event, pairing up with Estonian Jurgen Zopp against French duo Gregoire Barrere/Jonathan Eysseric.
